In today's fast-paced world, staying connected and productive while on the go is a necessity. Whether it's for work or leisure, having access to the internet, computational power, and storage is crucial to keep up with the demands of our digital lives. In this article, we will introduce you to a new portable 3D printed rack that combines all of these essential elements in a compact and easy-to-use device, making use of some creative commons assets available out there.

Hardware specs

The rack utilizes a TP-Link Archer MR600 4G router for internet connectivity, providing the right amount of connectivity juice up to 120Mbit/s of downlink. A Raspberry Pi 3 for computational capabilities, two SSD drives connected with an AmazonBasics active hub USB for storage, and a Tecnoware UPS ERA PLUS DC 9VDC/12VDC for power supply. Using the adapters coming from the Tecnoware UPS, you will manage to connect both the router and the Hub to the power source. The USB hub has also a power-only port, you can use this port #1 (see picture below) to provide power to the single board computer.

For this project I've used:

Software

Well... the minimum set consists of:

  • OpenMediaVault for remote storage management
  • PiAlert with Pihole for security
  • Docker, obviously, running your favorite containers

With this innovative setup, you can have all the tools you need to stay connected and productive while on the move, no matter where you are. Whether you're on vacation, enjoying outdoor activities, or working remotely, this rack provides you with all the necessary tools to keep up with your digital needs. Additionally, the 4G router provides internet connectivity even in remote locations where broadband is not available. With the ability to work or entertain yourself on the go, you can make the most of your free time and enjoy your travels or outdoor adventures to the fullest.
